Ranking among notable Indian cricketers of the early 1960s, Pravin Hansraj came into the world on July 24, 1938, in Karachi, Sindh, which was part of British India at that time. As a right-handed batsman who bowled medium pace from his left arm, he achieved most of his success playing in India's domestic competition.
Early Life and Cricketing Beginnings
His love for cricket first formed in Karachi after he took up the sport. Family members moved from Karachi to India after the partition which led them to settle in Mumbai. Through his time at the venue, Pravin mastered his cricket skills and established himself as a prominent player in Indian domestic cricket.
First-Class Career with Saurashtra
Saurashtra team sent Pravin to play first-class cricket during the period from 1963 through 1966 where he participated in nine matches. While bowling 908 balls for first-class cricket he collected 16 wickets at an average of 32.25. Pravin showcased his match-changing abilities through his outstanding best bowling performance that delivered five wickets at an economy rate of 57. Pravin achieved a top score of 20 along with 81 runs throughout the matches when batting.
Legacy and Personal Life
Pravin Hansraj remains renowned in cricket history through his connection to Jugal Hansraj whose path led him to become a famous Bollywood actor and director. In recognition of his cricketing achievements, the Hansraj family created the 'Hansraj Cricket Foundation' through its founding in 2015 to develop prospecting cricket talents. Pravin Hansraj died on January 28, 2014 while residing in Mumbai.
