Biography

Ambika what is a great name in the history of Indian film which saw her come into the lime light at the end of the 1970’s and become a mainstay in the 1980s as one of the most successful heroines of that time. Known for her out-of-the-ordinary acting and grace on screen, she starred in over 200 films in the Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu film industries. Ambika is also known for her ability to play a variety of characters, which include the innocent village girl to the strong, independent woman. To this day, she is a much-loved figure in the community of classic South Indian cinema.

Early Life

Ambika was born on 16th November 1962 in Kallara which is a small village in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. She grew up in a middle class home with her siblings which included her sister Radha who later also became a very popular actress. The sisters had a very close bond and also worked together in many films. From a young age, Ambika showed interest in art and dance, which went on to serve as the base for her entry into the film industry as a teen.

Ambika has had two marriages. In the first to Premkumar Menon which produced two sons. After they separated she married actor Ravikanth which was a short term union. Presently, she is at peace with her family and keeps her private life out of the public eye. Both of her boys are into different careers which are out of the film industry.

Ambika was born into a Hindu family in Kerala. From a traditional Nair background she put that which concerned caste aside for the most part. Like many of her peers in the industry, she was focused on her work and shunned social identity issues.

Also, it is to be noted that she has won many state-level awards and has also been recognized for her work in the Indian film industry.

Also to films Ambika went into television which saw her in serials and reality shows and which in turn helped to connect with a new generation of viewers. Also at the time she ran a film studio with her sister which showed her business acumen.
