Early Life and Background

Disha Vakani was born on the 17th of August in 1978 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, into a theatrical family. Her father Bhim Vakani is a noted Gujarati stage artist, which is also included in his daughter Disha’s heritage. Also a part of that heritage is her brother, Mayur Vakan, who also goes on to play her on-screen brother in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Disha did a degree in Drama at Gujarat College and had a go at the stage before moving onto TV and film.

Disha began her journey in Gujarati theatre, which she performed in with great natural comedic timing. Also, at that time, she appeared in a few Hindi films like Devdas and Jodhaa Akbar in small roles. But in 2008, she broke through when she got the role of Daya Jethalal Gada in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.

Her character of the innocent yet quirky housewife, which she played into a home favorite, and which brought her great fame across India. In addition to TM, KOC, she also appeared in Aahat, Khichdi, CID, and Hero  Bhakti Hi Shakti Hai. Disha took a leave of absence in 2017 for maternity and has been out of the regular TV scene ever since, although her fans are hopeful for her return.

In 2015, Disha tied the knot with Mayur Padi, a who is a based out of Mumbai chartered accountant anbusinessmanan. The pair had their daughter in November 2017 and their son in 2022. Since becoming a mother, Disha has chosen to stay out of the public eye and concentrate on her family, which she has been doing very well.
