He was born on May 29, 2006, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and when he beat the age record for the second youngest Grandmaster in history in just 12 years, 7 months, and 17 days, respectively. Early Life and Education

Gukesh D was much helped in his development by coming from a highly educated and well-resourced family. His father, Dr. Rajinikanth Dommaraju, is an ENT surgeon. His mother, Padma Kumari, is a former microbiologist who gave up her career to be alongside Gukesh on his various tournaments during his chess career. He enjoyed board games and puzzles, but as a child, he enjoyed strategy games, and finally started playing chess at the age of seven.
