She is a popular versatile Indian boxer who was born on March 1, 1982, in Kangathei Village, Manipur, India. The names of her parents  are Mangte Tonpa Kom and Mangte Akhan Kom. She holds a record of six times winning the World Amateur Boxing Championship. In 2012, she qualified for the Summer Olympics and won a Bronze medal named Magnificent Marry.

In 2014, a biopic was made on her in which stars Priyanka Chopra in the lead. She is also a Member of Parliament and an animal rights activist. She has completed her schooling at the Loktak Model Christian Public School, St. Xaviers Catholic School, and Adimjati High School. She was inspired by Indian boxer Dingko Singh who won a gold medal at the Asian Games. Her father was also a former boxer but he didn't support her beliefs that boxing is a masculine sport. She won the state championship in 2000 and has done a lot of struggle in her entire boxing career.

The name of her husband is Karung Ondholer, and they have three children. She gets a lot of support from her husband in pursuing her boxing career.In 2021, she won a bronze medal at the London Olympics. She is also a four-time winner of the Asian.  Women'sChampionship.

In 2021 she also won a gold medal at the Asian Cup Women's boxing tournament. In 2018’s AIBA Women's Championship, she has also won a Gold Medal. In 2003,2009, and 2020 she was honored with the Arjuna Award, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, and Padma Vibhushan.
