Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella Age, Early Life, Biography

Currently serving as CEO of Microsoft Corporation is Indian-American business leader Satya Nadella. He is renowned for both his visionary leadership and his contributions to the creation of Microsoft's essential services and goods. 

Satya Narayana Nadella was born on August 19, 1967, in the bustling city of Hyderabad, located in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. He hails from a family that speaks Telugu and practices Hinduism. His father, Bukkapuram Nadella Yugandhar, was an accomplished Indian Administrative Service officer, while his mother, Prabhavati, was a dedicated Sanskrit lecturer. Nadella’s early education took place at the Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet. His journey toward a career in technology began with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Manipal Institute of Technology, Karnataka, in 1988.

The Nadella family is originally from Bukkapuram, which is located in the Andhra Pradesh district of Anantapur. Satya's mother Prabhavati taught Sanskrit, while her father Yugandhar was a member of the Indian Administrative Service's 1962 batch. In the Guntur region of Andhra Pradesh, in the hamlet of Nadella, Satya's paternal grandpa moved, the family's origins are found.

Nadella relocated to the US after earning his undergraduate degree, and in 1990 he graduated with a master's degree in computer science from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. He then graduated in 1997 with an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He began his career as a technology staff member at Sun Microsystems before moving on to join Microsoft. Though Nadella joined Microsoft in 1992, it was there that he had the biggest influence.

He began his career as a technology evangelist and rose fast through the ranks of the company, spearheading various important initiatives including Microsoft's shift to cloud computing. He served in a variety of capacities for the company before taking on the CEO position, most notably as Executive Vice President of Microsoft's Cloud and Enterprise division. 2014 February saw the announcement of Nadella as the CEO of Microsoft.
