Ponniyin Selvan: I Becomes The Third-Highest-Grossing Indian Film of 2022 By Overtaking Brahmastra.
Mani Ratnam's masterpiece Ponniyin Selvan: I has overtaken Brahmastra Part and Vikram and became the third-highest-grossing Indian film of 2022.

Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: I has leave behing two big hits of 2022 which are Bramhastra Part One- Shiva and Vikram to become the third-highest-grossing Indian film of the year. The film, got some great response from overseas and has collected in excess of ₹450 crore worldwide.
Ponniyin Selvan: I is a historical epic which is based on kalki’s eponymic Tamil novel from 1954. It is the story of Arulmozhi Varman early days, who later become the great Chola king Raja Raj I. The film has some big names like Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi and many more. As per sources, the film has earned ₹455 crore gross worldwide as of September 17, which includes of ₹161 crore ($20 million) from overseas. Whereas Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra has just managed to earn ₹431 crore globally and Kamal Haasan-starrer Vikram has grossed ₹443 crore.
PS1’s earnings, however, are really as compared to two blockbusters from the south which are SS Rajamouli’s action film RRR that earned ₹1112 crore worldwide, and Kannada film KGF: Chapter 2 with ₹1207 crore. But regardless of anything the film's massive success has made it the second-highest grossing Tamil film of all time, behind Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar’s 2.0, which earned over ₹700 crore.
Ponniyin Selvan: I is still going strong after release and trade analysts has predicted that it may continue to lean towards the ₹500-crore mark. The film’s sequel, which was shot simultaneously, will release sometime next year.
