The plot of the film revolves around a Indian family called Mehras, who are quite dysfunctional, inviting their relatives and friends on a trip on a 10-day cruise for their parents’ anniversary to try to renew their marriage.

Zoya planned the movie as a family tragedy that would dwell on the pathos of brother and sister. Most of the principal photography shooting was done aboard Pullmantur Cruises’ ship MS Sovereign cruising through Mediterranean and Europe and parts of the shooting on land in France, Spain, Italy, Tunisia, and Turkey.

The music of Indu M foreign Affairs was composed by the Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy while the lyrics were penned by Javed Akhtar. It was released worldwide on 5 June 2015 and the critical reception was positive for the performances of Kapoor, Shah, Chopra, and Singh as well as for Akhtar’s direction, songs, visuals and production design; but was criticized for length of the movie, and climax. All the same, it turned out to be financially successful, as it collected ₹ 1. million on a production budget of ₹550 million (US$6. 6 million).

The movie entered the competition at the 61st Filmfare Awards and was nominated for five awards including – Best Supporting Actress for both Shah and Sharma “Not as ambitious”, but Kapoor won the Best Supporting Actor.
