Millions of students, doctors, teachers, engineers, and other professionals attempt the Civil Services Examinations annually with only a small percentage securing the results they desire. Although chances of passing the tests are good, preparing for the exam and finding suitable guidance can be difficult. IPS Navjot Simi from Punjab is one remarkable example, having made it through the UPSC Civil Services Exam after she started off as a dentist.

Biography and Age

Navjot Simi, who achieved a 735th rank in the UPSC 2018, was born on the 21st of December 1987 in Gurdaspur, Punjab. She began her profession as a dentist when she obtained her BDS degree from Baba Jaswant Singh Dental Hospital and Research Institute, Ludhiana. She got her coaching from a renowned institute in New Delhi despite her belief that one could crack the UPSC without having to go to high-priced coaching centers and instead just by utilizing the internet which has all the resources a candidate needs.

Her father, Hans Raj, is a branch manager of the Union Bank branch in the locality; her mother is a homemaker; her younger sister is an MBA employed in Dubai and her younger brother is a Computer Science Engineering B.Tech in New Delhi, but works as a photographer. Navjot Simi is a 36-year-old woman who is married to IAS Tushar Singla.

Tushar Singla, a recent graduate from IIT Delhi and a 2015 IAS rank holder from Barnala, Punjab, chose Public Administration as his option for the civil services exam. His route to success was difficult, but the rewards were sweet. In 2020, he married Simi in Uluberia, with a plan to celebrate their union after the West Bengal Elections in 2021. His dedication to self-improvement made his exam strategy easier and increased his assurance.

Simi began her journey towards the IPS exam in 2016, when she began her career as a dentist, and eventually passed the exam in 2018. She had an unsuccessful attempt at the Union Public Service Exam in 2017, but was able to pass it in 2018, achieving 735th place on the list of applicants. Despite pressure from family and friends to get married after receiving her BDS degree, she stayed focused on her goals and achieved her dream of becoming an IPS officer.

Navjot Simi, a 2017 batch IPS officer from the Bihar cadre and currently assigned as a DSP in Patna, faced numerous difficulties during her journey to achieve the UPSC. Despite the pressure from her job and family to get married, she persevered and dedicated an entire year to her preparation for the civil services exam. Despite failing the interview, she didn't give up. She remained determined and, in the end, passed with flying colours.
