He was born on February 27, 1976, in Gauriganj, Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, under the name Manoj Shukla. However, after relocating to Mumbai, he adopted the moniker Manoj Muntashir. He attended HAL School in Korwa for his primary education and later pursued his graduation from Allahabad University in Allahabad (now Prayagraj).
From an early age, Manoj had a passion for reading and writing and enjoyed composing poetry. He believed that Urdu was an essential component of poetry and thus, learned the language first.
