Meet Joe Black Movie Review, Cast And Crew, Actors And Actress
"Meet Joe Black" attempts to give a reflective look at life, love, and death besides being a philosophical romantic drama. Helmed by Martin Brest of the Scent of a Woman fame, the services of Brad Pitt as Joe Black-a personification of Death-are involved to strike a deal with media tycoon William Parrish, played by Anthony Hopkins. Joe extends Parrish's life in exchange for the chance to experience life himself. Things grow still more complex when Joe falls for Parrish's daughter, Susan, played by Claire Forlani.
Key Aspects:
- Themes: Existential themes have been developed in this movie, such as the transient nature of life or one's eventual death. It basically tells the audience to remember mortality and beauties of human experience.
Performances: Brad Pitt brings a nice balance of unnerving tension and childlike curiosity to the role of Death. Hopkins brings a great deal of emotional weight to the role of a man coming to terms with his impending demise. Claire Forlani is tender in her love interest role, while the cast rounding out the film, comprised of Jake Weber and Marcia Gay Harden, adds family dynamics and corporate intrigue.
Equally evocative in measure, the lush visuals by Emmanuel Lubezki meet the score from Thomas Newman to present almost a dreamlike and contemplative atmosphere.
Verdict:
Panned for being three hours in length and slow-paced, Meet Joe Black pays dividends to a viewer able to appreciate high-level philosophical arguments. A movie for viewers able to dig a slow-burning drama and weigh things heavy on life and love.
