Review
'Pelli Kaani Prasad', a family entertainer made light-heartedly, unravels the life of an unmarried man whose values are old-fashioned.
Plot Overview
Prasad, a 38-year-old bachelor who works in a Malaysian luxury hotel, obstinately refuses to get married unless he is paid a dowry of two crores or more—a practice he proudly inherits from his ancestors. The situation becomes dramatic when he falls in love with Priya, an ambitious woman who hopes to settle down abroad with her family. Their lives intersect, and they have a whirlwind romance and marriage. But once the marriage is celebrated, conflicts erupt when Prasad declines to leave the country. A series of comical and emotional situations follows to unveil the reasons for Prasad's actions and the tribulations of a new bridegroom.
Performances
Saptagiri infuses his brand of comic timing and charm on screen, giving a performance that is both engrossing and emotional. He takes the film on his shoulders quite nicely, even making the most mundane scenes watchable. Priyanka Sharma acts out her part well and lends some glamour to the film. The rest of the cast playing supporting roles—Annapurnama, Vadlamani Srinivas, and Pramodini—are also well cast for their roles and assist in telling the movie's story.
Highlights
- Saptagiri's flawless comedy and emotional depth
- Glamorous presence of Priyanka Sharma
- Some poignant emotional scenes
- Stunning cinematography by Sujatha Siddharth
Disadvantages
- Repetitive and predictable plot
- Some of the dragged-out scenes, which slow the pace
Technical Aspects
Director Abhilash Reddy Gopidi presents a movie that tries to entertain with comedy and touch upon social problems such as dowry and the pressure of getting married at the same time. Although the tale is not new, the presentation keeps one engaged with the interesting and comedic segments. Music by Sekhar Chandra is decent and in line with the tone of the film, although the background score had to be more robust. Madhu's editing is good, although the second half could have been more restrained.
Conclusion
'Pelli Kaani Prasad' is a decent one-time watch, especially for people who enjoy neat, comedy-driven family entertainers. While the story does not take new turns, Saptagiri's performance and the emotional undertone of the film make for an enjoyable cinematic ride. It's a combination of comedy and sentimentalism, if presented in old-fashioned packaging.
Final Verdict
A light-hearted entertainer with a blend of smiles and tears, delivered with conviction by Saptagiri.
