Which Country Does Garena Free Fire Come From?

Garena Free Fire is a very successful battle royale video game by 111dots Studio, an independent Vietnamese video game studio. The game is owned by Garena, and it belongs to a Singaporean digital services provider business segment of Sea Limited. While there are headquarters of Garena in Singapore, the origin of the game development is in Vietnam through 111dots Studio.

Much to the dismay of its Singaporean publisher, Free Fire had already been banned in India in February 2022. The application had been deemed by the Indian government as a hostile app against the country's national security and the privacy of users, and that the application had been engaged in activities against the sovereignty and integrity of India. To the surprise of many, the new graphics version of the game, Free Fire Max, had not been banned by the government yet.

Through June 6, 2025, Garena continues to engage with players through the redeeming of Free Fire Max codes that provide free in-game rewards such as skins, weapons, and diamonds. The players can redeem the codes by keeping the official Free Fire reward redemption page open while a registered account is already logged in.

Briefly, though, Free Fire is made in Vietnam but developed by Singapore-based gaming firm Garena. It remains out of bounds in India due to the 2022 ban, but remains hugely popular elsewhere.
