If you're reading this, then you probably already know that applying makeup is no piece of cake for most of us. Sure, you have mastered the basics when it comes to makeup like you know that you need to put the primer on your face BEFORE you proceed to makeup. But even if you are a veteran at wearing eyeshadow and foundation, I bet you would be on cloud nine if you get to know some tips and tricks that will save you time and money — all while looking more awesome than ever!

These tried-and-tested beauty insider secrets that I've rounded up for you are going to help you if you're a pro or even if you're only just starting out in this game. Whether you're looking to fix common makeup problems like too much of contour or too little of eyeshadow or you just want to make your eyes more prominent, here are five of the best makeup hacks that you'll thank me for letting you know about!

1. Heat your eyelash curler with a blow-dry before using it

So you bought this fancy eyelash curler but you don't seem to find any difference when you're using it? Well, try out this trick to make your eye makeup better and more professional. Heat your eyelash curler just before using it by holding a blow-dryer close to it for a few seconds. Mind you, do not heat it more than the stipulated time, or else you'll be left with burnt lashes. Of course, be sure to stay safe while handling the hot curler. This hack will definitely work for you if you have stubborn lashes that won't curl easily.

2. Heat your kajal pencil before using it to make it glide

Ugh, this has happened to me so many times! Write after buying a kajal pencil, the sharpened tip feels so rough on the gentle skin of the eyelids, and moreover, it does not even give a proper colour! Well, here's a solution for that. To make your kajal pencil glide on your lids seamlessly, try melting the tip by holding it over the flame for a few moments. You will start to see the pointed tip becoming a bit blunt and then you'll know when to stop. Don't melt the whole thing away, of course. This way the kajal turns into an amorphous gel and it lines your eyes perfectly!

3. Brush your lips to make it look more pouty

I learned this trick from one of the Vogue Beauty Secrets videos on YouTube! To make your lips look fuller and poutier, just before applying your lip makeup, get a clean brush and then brush your lips! It will get rids of all the dead skin cells and make your lips look naturally red. It also gives your lips a smoother appearance. However, over-exfoliating is not a good choice as it will irritate your delicate skin. You don't have to do it very often, once a week is enough to make it work!

4. Apply dry shampoo at night

Yes, you read it right! If you're a fan of dry shampoo, apply it right before going to bed at night. It will absorb the oil in your hair while you are sleeping and as you'll twist and turn in your bed, the shampoo will go to all places on your scalp to ensure an even application. In the morning you will only have to do the regular touch-ups and voilà, you've now got awsome, silky hair to flaunt!

5. Use a pencil to make lines on your cheeks before contouring

This is a very important step and you need to follow it if you want a smooth contouring journey. Contouring isn't easy and even the best of us have a hard time accentuating our cheekbones with just the right amount of contour so that we don't look like clowns! Well, I have got a trick to make your journey easy. Use a stick foundation for this purpose and with it, trace the outline of the temples. Bring out your cheekbones by find the hollow part above the mandible and make a straight line parallel to your jawline. With the nose, you can go a little bit narrower at the tip or you can carry it into the brow. This will ensure that your contours are at the right places and you will look just fine with your high cheekbones and sharp look.
