Read abour our trip to a supermarket, while the city was under a lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak
With the city being under a lockdown, getting all the requisite items from your neighbourhood market has become increasingly difficult for Mumbaikars. Like many others, we were left with no other option but to pay a visit to our nearby Reliance Fresh outlet to source all the groceries.
We left in our car at around 3.30PM from our home. We were hoping that people would avoid visiting the supermarket in the afternoon. We were hoping to escape scrutiny by the cops as well. Videos of cops beating up people, gave us nightmares. While the PM had mentioned that we would be allowed to get out of our homes during the lockdown, some cops thought otherwise. Unluckily for us, there was a huge queue outside the supermarket. While women were allowed to enter directly, the men had to wait outside for their turn. I had to wait for approx. 30 mins(felt like an hour in the heat) before I was allowed to go in. While I was hoping that the wife would have started shopping, sadly for us she was asked to wait as well. The waiting time for us to enter the supermarket was 30 mins. While the men have to sweat it out in the heat, the women have to wait for 30 mins too. But thankfully the supermakret had made seating arrangements for the women. A man who was denied entry owing to him not carrying a mask, was visibly peeved.
To ensure social distancing, the supermarket was allowing only a few people at a time. The lesser crowds meant easier shopping & checkout. Although it was annoying to see people roam around without masks within the supermarket.
We can't think of a food or any other essential item which was unavailable.
We were stopped by some cops on our way back home. They simply asked a few details & let us leave as soon as we told them about the purpose of venturing out of our home.
