Everything About SHALU The World’s First Humanoid Robot Made Of Waste
This is a very innovative and thrifty story regarding the first humanoid robot from India, made wholly from waste material. This was a creation of a computer science teacher at Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT Bombay. Thus, this project is a testimonial to the fact that innovations that are going to be world-class are certainly possible with very meager resources.
Who is Shalu?
Shalu is an indigenously manufactured, artificially intelligent humanoid robot ready to go to work at a cost of ₹50,000. Made from scraps of material, which was of cardboard, wood, and aluminum, Shalu can certainly never be a contender of any sort for mass production robotic like this. She has command over 47 languages out of which 9 are Indian, 38 are foreign and could recognize faces and objects besides deciphering emotions; meaning she could convey accordingly. Eco-friendly design is the reason that Shalu's actual design has made her one of the leading humanoid robots around the world.
Mentor to Shalu
Inspiration for Patel:
Movie Robot (2010), which had Rajnikant's Chitti in it.
Sophia, a humanoid robot developed by Hanson Robotics.
National programs of Digital India, Skill India and Make in India.
He wanted the world to realize that India could be a technological great power and not necessarily because they possess all the resources in this space.
Shalu's Skills
- It can understand and talk in thousands of Indian and International languages such as Hindi, Tamil, German, and Japanese.
- Computational Skills: It computes mathematics, predicts the weather, conducts quizzes and gives lectures.
- Social Skills: It recognizes faces, reads moods, and speaks.
Applications
Teaching assistant for classes
Receptionist taking voice and e-mails
It is a companion for elderlies but a perfect educational companion for children.

Future Proposals
Patel intends to modify Shalu even further in the following ways:
- Expressions of the emotions using 3D printing and latex face.
- Motor functions such that she could walk properly
Shalu is an example of sustainable innovation, and this shows that the talent from India can compete at a global level. The innovations made by Patel inspire developments related to robotics and AI sustainability and utilize resources so that technology will reach all ends.
