Cricket is embedded in the fabric of every Indian’s life, and Hyderabad is no exception, as the sport was brought to India by the British Army and soon turned into a passion for the people of the city. The legendary Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium is the venue for some exceptional matches, including its inaugural match featuring India and South Africa. Over the years, the city of Hyderabad has produced many cricketers who have brought honour to the state and the nation as a whole.

1. Mohammad Azharuddin
Mohammad Azharuddin
A legendary figure from Hyderabad, Azhar captained the Indian Team throughout the 1990s and is known for his fluid wristy strokes. He has scored more than 15,000 international runs, 22 international centuries, received numerous honours (including the Arjuna and Padma Shri Awards), and is still one of India's greatest cricketers. He is the President of the Hyderabad Cricket Association presently.

2. V.V.S. Laxman
During his career, Laxman gained a reputation for his elegant stroke play, finishing with a Test average of 8,781 runs and 2,338 ODI runs. He is also the recipient of the Padma Shri and Arjuna Awards, a current member of the BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee, and an assistant/mindset mentor of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.

3. Mohammed Siraj
Known for his determination, the aggressive fast bowler approached the pinnacle of ODI bowlers when the ICC ranked him No. 1 in January 2023, and in the IPL, he made history as the first bowler to bowl two consecutive maiden overs in a match.

4. Pragyan Ojha
Ojha was born in Odisha but nurtured and educated in Hyderabad. As a left-arm spinner, he took more than 100 Test wickets and, during his peak, was ranked fifth by the ICC.

5. Shivlal Yadav
Regularly picking wickets as an off-spinner, Yadav took over 100 Test wickets at a best of 8/118 against Australia.

6. Abbas Ali Baig
Baig was the youngest Indian cricketer to score a century on debut. He went on to score more than 12,000 runs in first-class cricket and eventually became a coach of India for the World Cup of 1992.

7. Noel David
A terrific all-rounder and outstanding fielder, Noel played for India in 1997 and is the current Chief Selector for Hyderabad.

Energetic all-rounder Abid was known for his running and tight bowling. His 6 for 23 against Surrey is legendary.

9. M.L. Jaisimha
Stylish cricketer Jaisimha was the first cricketer to bat on all five days of a Test, and was the mentor to Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi.

10. Pochiah Krishnamurthy
Reliable wicketkeeper Krishnamurthy represented India on the 1971 West Indies tour and served Hyderabad cricket for many years.
