Rasipuram Krishnaswami Iyer Narayanaswami, widely recognized as R. K. Narayan, was a renowned Indian writer and novelist acclaimed for his literary works centered around the imaginary town of Malgudi, nestled in South India. His prominence in the realm of early Indian English literature was notable alongside the likes of Mulk Raj Anand and Raja Rao.

Narayan, born on 10th October 1906 in Madras, Madras Presidency, under the British Raj, concluded his earthly journey on 13th May 2001 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, at the age of 94. His academic pursuits led him to Maharaja's College, Mysore.

Throughout his career, Narayan showcased versatility across various genres including fiction, mythology, and non-fiction, earning him accolades such as the prestigious Padma Vibhushan, Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, and the Benson Medal.

In 1934, Narayan tied the knot with Rajam, who unfortunately passed away in 1939. The union bore one child, Hema Narayan. Notably, he was the brother of renowned cartoonist R. K. Laxman.
