Rashid Khan Age, Family, Father, Mother, Siblings, Biography In 2025
Rashid Khan, the popular leg-spinner for Afghanistan, is the product of a large and close family who supported him and were a part of each step of his journey.
Born in Jalalabad, Nangarhar province, Rashid was raised with ten siblings (six brothers and four sisters) in a cricket-centric household where his upbringing revolved around the game of cricket. Rashid grew up with Haji Khalil, his father, who owned a small car business and was the family's main supporter. He encouraged Rashid to follow his dreams of being a cricketer despite being from a financially challenged household in a war-torn country. In fact, Rashid frequently cites that his father's belief in him and encouragement are what allowed him to become successful. Tragically, Haji Khalil died in 2018 at the outset of Rashid's burgeoning international career. Rashid's mother, of whom the public does not know her name, acted as the silent, toughest emotional supporter in Rashid's life and ultimately passed away in June 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rashid often shares how the dedication and lessons of his parents impact his life and journey in the game. As Rashid grew up, he had a very close relationship with his brothers - Amir Khalil Khan, Zakiullah, Raza Khan, Jalil, and two brothers whose names remain public. What’s interesting is that all of his brothers bowl leg-spin naturally, which also gives us some sense of the extent to which cricket is in their blood. Backyard matches, competitive matches, and time spent together are where Rashid first learned the sport. Even today, he will post photos with his brothers, sisters, and nephews, and his nephew Mohammad Zain seems poised to continue the family tradition.
Life for the Khan family was certainly not easy. The ongoing conflict in Afghanistan led them to escape to Pakistan and to live for a few years as refugees. These were difficult times, but they strengthened the family bond and resolve. Cricket became their escape; their hope; and ultimately, their shared hope became Rashid's pathway to world fame. Rashid Khan's remarkable story, invested in Kurt and inscribed as one of the most feared T20 bowlers in the world, is as much about the love, togetherness, and sacrifice of a family as it is anything else.
