Jyotsna Suri

Dr. Jyotsna Suri, a pioneer in the Indian hospitality sector, is the Chairman and managing director of Bharat Hotels Limited, which runs the luxurious hotel brand "The LaLiT".Born on 20th July 1952, in Delhi, she is a product of The Lawrence School, Sanawar, Himachal Pradesh, and has a bachelor’s degree in English Honors from Miranda House, University of Delhi. In honor of her achievements an "honorary Doctor of Laws" has been bestowed upon her by the University of Warwick, UK.

Career

Dr. Jyotsna Suri became the Joint Managing Director of Bharat Hotels Limited in the year 1987. Following the early death of her husband, Lalit Suri, at the Founder level, she stepped into the role of Chairman and Managing Director in 2006. Under her visionary management, the hotel group successfully rebranded it as "The LaLiT" and grew its portfolio of six establishments to 14 luxury hotels. Currently, LaLiT has a total of 12 hotels, palaces, and resorts in India and 2 mid-market chain hotels. In so doing the group also has an overseas dimension a London-based hotel with more than 29,800 hotel bedrooms worldwide.

In 2014 Dr. Suri became the President of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and thus a spokesman for the Indian hospitality industry. Her interest in gender equality is evident in her actions, including the recruitment of transgender staff and the creation of an equitable workplace. Over the last 3 decades, Dr. Suri has effectively positioned Bharat Hotels Limited as the powerhouse behind one of the leading hotel dynasties in India.

Achievements

Dr. The revolution Jyotsna Suri has wrought in the industry has earned her numerous accolades. She was honored with the prestigious ‘Order of the Rising Sun’ by the Japanese government in 2020 for strengthening Japan-India economic relations and fostering cultural exchanges. This was the first time an Indian woman received this prestigious award, which was established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji of Japan. As the Co-chair of the FICCI Forum of Parliamentarians Council, she has also actively contributed to the India-Japan Parliamentarians Forum.
