Daler Mehndi signed a three-year, three-album contract with Indian record company Magnasound. He gained widespread recognition with his debut album, Bolo Ta Ra Ra, which sold over 20 million copies and established him as a pop star. For this album, he was also awarded the Best Indian Male Pop Artist at Channel V. The following year, he released his second album, Dardi Rab Rab, under Magnasound.

Daler Mehndi's second album, Dardi Rab Rab, proved to be immensely successful. It earned him nominations in three categories at Channel V Music Awards and won him the Best Indian Male Artist award. It also became the top-selling non-soundtrack album in the history of Indian music.
